Ingredients

  • For the Cake:

    • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
    • 4 large eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup buttermilk
  • For the Filling and Frosting:
    • 2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • For the Ganache:
    • 5 ounces white chocolate, chopped
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream
    • 5 ounces dark chocolate, chopped

Instructions

Prepare the Cake Layers

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar together on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined. With the mixer running on low speed, add the dry ingredients in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk and mixing until just combined after each addition.
