Crab cakes have long been a favorite in Maryland. Marylanders love their crab cakes, and for good reason. They’re deliciously flavorful, and can be served as an appetizer or a main course. Today we’re going to show you how to make mini Maryland crab cakes that may be even better than the originals.

Ingredients

For this recipe, you’ll need:
  • 1 lb. of jumbo lump crabmeat
  • 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons of yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of Old Bay for garnish
  • 1/4 cup of panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for garnish

Instructions

Preparing the Crab Cakes

Start by preparing the crab cakes. In a large bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, parsley, and panko breadcrumbs. Gently fold in the crabmeat, making sure not to break up the lumps of crabmeat. Form the mixture into small patties, about 1/4 cup of mixture per patty. Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for one hour.

Making the Breading

Next, make the breading. In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour and the remaining Old Bay seasoning. Take the crab cakes out of the refrigerator and coat them in the flour mixture. Place the coated crab cakes on a plate and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Frying the Crab Cakes

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the crab cakes and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Flip the cakes and fry for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the crab cakes from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Serving the Crab Cakes

Serve the mini Maryland crab cakes with a side of melted butter and lemon wedges for garnish. Enjoy!
