  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup real maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until each is fully incorporated. Next, add the milk and vanilla and mix until just combined.

Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and melted butter until crumbly. Evenly sprinkle the topping over the cake batter.

Bake the cake for 35-40 minutes, or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
